The Bwindi impenetrable forest is one of the most visited national parks in Uganda.
The Bwindi impenetrable forest is one of the most visited national parks in Uganda. It is known for its gorilla trekking opportunities, as well as its chimpanzees, birds, and other wildlife.
The forest is located in southwestern Uganda, on the edge of the Albertine Rift. It covers an area of 321 square kilometers and is adjacent to the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Rwenzori Mountains National Park in Uganda.
The Bwindi impenetrable forest is one of the most biologically diverse areas on earth. It is home to more than half of the world’s population of mountain gorillas, as well as many other primates, birds, and other wildlife. The forest is also an important source of water for the region.
It is a critical part of the watershed for the Nile River, and its protected status ensures that the forest will continue to play this important role.
The Bwindi impenetrable Forest was first gazetted as a forest Reserve in 1932. It was upgraded to a National Park in 1991, and inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.
